Cheat-sheet for National Workplace Wellbeing Day April 2024

Here you can find some ideas that you can suggest to your team on the National Workplace Wellbeing day.

How it works

With the Workplace Wellbeing Day taking place on the 26th of April, we have prepared some ideas and activities that you can suggest to your employees on the day, or during the week, or even adopt them as a part of your long-term wellbeing strategy. Of course, some (or even all of them) might not work for you and your organisation but we hope that we can give you some inspiration.

Giving your employees some time off.

Giving your employees some time off work is the most obvious and the most effective way to support Workplace Wellbeing and help your people maintain a healthy work-life balance. Spending some extra time with friends and family, on hobbies or just relaxing can reduce stress and burnout. For example, you can give your employees a mental health day of their choice that they can take off during the Wellbeing Week, or even have a half day on Friday. With the Workplace Wellbeing Day being the last Friday of the month, this is the perfect excuse to finish work earlier.

Activities and team events.

Doing any kind of activity not related to work can boost employees’ productivity and improve their overall wellbeing. And when we say “any kind” we mean it! Here just a few examples of what you can potentially do with your team:

  • Going on a hike or taking a trip to nature - if your team is remote, you can suggest your team members to go on a hike or even spend some time in a park with their family, friends or alone and to share their thoughts, experiences and photos with others;
  • Doing an escape room or visiting a creative workshop, such as pottery or painting can be good for the onsite teams;
  • Organising online or onsite yoga, mindfulness, or meditation sessions or wellness webinars (get in touch with us, and we will be happy to help organise one!);
  • Another activity that can be done both onsite and remotely is a quiz or a board game event.

Open a conversation about mental health

You can organise coffee chats and team meetings, for your people to simply sit down together and talk about how they’re feeling, discuss their workloads and mental status. It’s a great way to check in collectively, listen to everyone’s needs and be responsive and responsible towards one another. Such a coffee chat is beneficial for everyone from employees to management, it helps connect with others, to hear and be heard.

Offer volunteering opportunities

Doing volunteer work and helping others provides many benefits to both mental and physical health. Volunteering helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety, it helps build connections with other people or animals, and helping others can help boost self-confidence and combat depression. You can volunteer for a day as a team or give your employees an opportunity to choose an organisation of their choice and take some time off work to do some work for them. Giving your people a certain amount of days every year that they can spend doing volunteer work can be a great addition to your long-term wellbeing strategy.
