December Newsletter: Nutrition and more

This is specific content that you may use for your team to encourage wellbeing and drive your team to use their wellbeing hub. Content for End of year 2023.

We understand that you are busy, especially as the year comes to a close. For this reason, we have prepared this information that you can copy and send via email to remind your staff about the importance of taking care of themselves as they wrap up the year.

In this chapter, we have gathered 5 core tips from our professionals that focus on nutrition. Additionally, you can also focus on looking back and setting yourself up for success in 2024 while not losing sight of all you have achieved in 2023.

Feel free to use a mix of both if you want! There are no rules!

Option 1 - Nutrition

Subject: [Name], here are 5 steps to have a healthy holiday season!

Dear [Employee name]

The Holiday Season is here, and as you know, it often involves a lot of festivities and parties. A key aspect of enjoying the holidays responsibly and sustainably is being mindful of our nutrition and eating habits, as we are often tempted with delicious sweets. To help you navigate this, we have compiled a list of guidelines from our partner Kara Connect to help you stay energised and focused during the season's celebrations:

  • Enjoy yourself: First and foremost, allow yourself to enjoy the Holiday Season! It’s a wonderful time of year, so don’t be hard on yourself for enjoying food and drink in measured and responsible moderation. Eating well and celebrating is the point, after all!

  • Mindful eating: Try to stay mindful during meal-times by slowing down and savouring each and every bite you take. Not only will you enjoy your meals more, but you’ll also tend to eat less than you would otherwise.

  • Portion sizes, veggies and hydration: By loading up on veggies, you’ll be sure to get all the nutrients and vitamins you need while feeling more sated. Try to keep your portions smaller and don’t forget to drink a lot of water.

  • Don't skip meals: You might be tempted to skip meals in order to make room for bigger mealtimes, but try instead to stay consistent and avoid skipping meals. Skipping meals can lead to lowered blood-sugar levels and frustration, which can in turn lead to binge-eating.

  • Avoid processed foods to a reasonable degree: New research has shown a substantial link between consumption of highly processed foods and a higher risk of depression. The Holidays tend to be rife with processed foodstuffs, so it pays to stick to natural and unprocessed ingredients.

  • Drink responsibly: Excessive and prolonged alcohol consumption can leave us feeling depressed and winded. In order to stay on point, try to limit your alcohol intake. One neat trick we’ve found useful is to bring a 6-pack or a bottle of a non-alcoholic beverage of choice to parties and alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Option 2 - Looking back and Looking Forward

Subject: [Name], here are 5 steps to have a healthy holiday season!

Dear [Employee name]

As 2023 draws to a close, we have a unique chance to look back on our accomplishments and the goals we have pursued in the past year. Here are 5 exercises recommended by our partner, Kara Connect, to help you set realistic goals and resolutions for 2024:

  1. Reflect on your habits: Which habits have served you the most in 2023 – and which habits have been unhelpful? Take a moment to consider how you might take steps toward strengthening good habits and weakening unhelpful habits. Remember, habit-work is a long-term process.
  2. Prioritize according to your values: We’re all defined by the values we hold dear. By reminding ourselves of which values we try to live by, we can strengthen our boundaries and clarify our goals.
  3. Define what wellbeing means to you: Wellbeing is a slippery concept because it means different things to different people. What does wellbeing mean to you? Does it involve being in balance, or does it involve a focused intensity? With strong definitions, decisions are easier to make.
  4. Take account of the resources available to you: Remember that you have access to a variety of world-class professionals readily available to help you achieve your goals via your Kara Connect Wellbeing Hub. Go and use your next sponsored credit here [Insert Wellbeing Hub Link]
  5. Set realistic goals: It’s tempting to make huge resolutions when faced with the possibilities of a new year, but if they turn out to be a little too overwhelming, we can be sorely disappointed in ourselves. By setting a few very achievable goals alongside the bigger ones, we’re more likely to feel accomplished and confident as the year goes on.
